Deborah Blume

Begining my fifth year serving on the PSSCA Board, as the Leadership Committee Chair, I am grateful for the opportunity to represent and support you.  I am seeking your ideas and inspiration, please join our committee if in your heart, you are called to do so.  A part of leadership has been that I work hard to submit proposals each year for ASCA and PSSCA and have been lucky enough to present in both places several times.  Advocacy with districts and school boards;as well as, legislators is an important part of our committee's work. I spoke on NBC's Education Nation Summit and Town Hall in Phoenix, AZ regarding national ratios and shared my point of view with state legislators at town hall meetings here in South Carolina.  Advancing the profession of school counseling and improving public understanding and support for what we do is critical.   As I move through this school year I am hoping to connect with someone who is interested in taking over the Leadership chair position, next summer.  (It is an appointed position) I will mentor and support in any way needed.  Part of leadership is fostering new folks and their ideas.

I have been an educator for more than twenty years, working as a Special Education Teacher, Learning Specialist, Behavior Specialist and School Counselor. I received my BS and MA from New Mexico State University. I hold SC licences in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Special Education and Counseling.  Being a Global Career Development Facilitator enhances my work with students, families and community members.  I am certified in Crisis Response though PREPaRE and have Life Space Crisis Intervention Training, as well as FEMA Emergency Management Training.    In my experience, collaboration and communication are at the heart of creating and maintaining  any Comprehensive School Counseling Program.  My program at A J Whittenberg Elementary School of Engineering in Greenville, SC is ever growing and evolving. Being community focused means being a part of the fabric of my school neighborhood.

I was honored to be voted AJW Teacher of the Year in 2016.   Now, as your PSSCA Elementary School Counselor of the Year 2019, I want to represent you and advance our profession.

I encourage each of you to join PSSCA and serve in any way that you are inspired to.

My hope is to be grateful for every day and serve from the heart.   Email, tweet or call... Let me hear how I can better serve you!

I chose to serve on this volunteer board, because leading with love and service

makes the community better for all of us.

Join my committee!  Grassroots leadership is our goal!

May your minutes be utilized to make the world a better place.

I hope you find unexpected moments of joy in your day.
