Dr. Tavita Herriott

Hello. I am Dr. Tavita Herriott, and I serve as the Director of Student Success for Sumter School District in Sumter, South Carolina. In this role, in my district I supervise all Pre-K through 12 school counselors, truancy officers, and attendance. I work collaboratively with district leaders, schools, and community partners to strengthen systems that support student achievement, well-being, and long-term success. My work focuses on building comprehensive student support structures that address the academic, social, emotional, and attendance needs of every student.

Throughout my 21 years in education, I have remained deeply committed to expanding opportunities and removing barriers for students. My experience has allowed me to support schools in developing coordinated systems that include school counseling, attendance and truancy interventions, dropout prevention, and multi-tiered systems of support. I believe that when schools intentionally align these supports, they create stronger pathways for students to graduate prepared for college, careers, and life.

I am passionate about advancing the role of school counselors and strengthening the impact of comprehensive school counseling programs. I believe that collaboration among educators, counselors, families, and communities is essential to ensuring that every child has access to the resources and encouragement needed to thrive.

My professional work is driven by a commitment to service, leadership development, and continuous improvement. I value opportunities to engage in professional learning, collaborate with colleagues across districts and states, and contribute to conversations that advance effective student success systems.

Outside of my professional responsibilities, I value time spent with family, community engagement, and activities that promote personal wellness and balance.
